I have the same problem, I download and installed in my toshiba laptop the toshiba realtek ac97 audio ac97 driver 11 january and toshiba realtek ac97 audio but dont work. Aside from that, check some of the basics such as the volume level and mute control. Compatibility toshiba realtek ac97 audio did the trick.

Thread starter hgfire Start date Sep 21, No fix I have tried the XP Realtek driver. I un-installed and re-installed repeatedly the Realtek sound driver. Some Toshiba Sattelites require an AC’97 driver from Sigmatel or another manufacturer and not Realtek, so let us know what the model number is on that laptop.
When I faced this toshiba realtek ac97 audio I simply copied the driver ac977 an virtualized windows xp that used the same driver and I applied it to windows toshiba realtek ac97 audio.
